How To Setup Text Shortcuts On Android Device

Actually text shortcuts are some important words or phrases that we normally add these to dictionary of our device and then use such custom words or phrases when typing something and not type them out completely. Don’t you type your email, phone number, street address a lot? yes you are. Perhaps you would like to use specific words or phrases “I love you”. It all is possible when read this little guide here that how to setup text shortcuts on Android device.

First of all, you have to setup some text shortcuts. For this we used a stock Android device for better result. But the same settings will be available on your own Android device. And it is better that install Google Keyboard on your own device to make sure that you’ve these options.

How To Setup Text Shortcuts On Android Device

  • From top pull-down  notification bar, and then tap quick settings icon in top-right corner.
  • Tap the option “Language & Input“.

  • Tap the “Personal Dictionary“.

  • Tap “+” icon.
  • Here just typing any word you need to use and in the shortcut section put any abbreviation you would like to use, and just tap save.

  • Repeat above steps  4 and 5 for all such text shortcuts to add.

How To Use Text Shortcuts On Android:

  • Open any app where you use keyboard such as messaging, browser, email etc.
  • Just (or simply swipe) in the added shortcut and you will see the matching word or phrase appear above the keyboard as suggestions.

  • To put that shortcut in place just hit the space-bar, or you can even tap on that specific suggestion as well.

You can even surprise your friend by adding a shortcut for word “love” appear when he want to type word “love”, to make some confusion next time they need to send a message to others. So this is quite interesting feature to try with your own Android device as well.
